In November 2006, soon after the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival and Filmmakers Academy one of our DFW members sent out an email
asking if anyone was interested in forming a filmmakers group in the Dallas area. Many people responded, including some interested Oklahoma folks. We decided to meet in January.
At our first meeting, we addressed what our goals were to be as a group:
- To glorify God in all we do.
- To encourage and facilitate networking and friendships between Christian filmmakers and those interested in filmmaking.
- To facilitate collaboration between group members and other Christian filmmakers.
- To complete at least one film as a group per year that allows interested group members to utilize the talents God has blessed them with.
- To build a support base that we can teach and be taught by as we learn our craft.
Four officer posts were established. President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The President is in charge of running the meetings, he is also to be the face
of the group and represent them. The Vice-President is in charge of writing up an agenda and delegating tasks for the meetings. The Secretary is in charge of taking down the minutes for
each meeting and is the voice of communication for the officers between meetings. Each meeting has had a theme. February was Treatment month. Members brought treatments for their own film
ideas to be presented, voted on, and adopted as the current group project. Since then, themes have been determined by production needs. We have also had guest speakers visit to our
meetings. In March, the LeClerc brothers honored and enlightened us with an online chat.
Each meeting begins with prayer and a devotion. We also try and make sure we have a lot of wonderful food available. It has proven difficult to begin meetings on time
because of all the good fellowship. We have turned into quite a social group and several of us have become good friends. It is interesting to just look around and see the diversity in the
group. The Lord has brought writers, cinematographers, actors, composers, sound technicians, and editors together all in one place. We are all so different, and yet we are all brought
together by our faith in Christ and our love of filmmaking.
